Project: UI Redesign and research for a digital platform that aggregates carriers, providing freight options for independent truck drivers:

Idealized by Votorantim Cimentos, Motz is an innovative digital platform aiming to revolutionize the freight transportation sector by connecting carriers with independent truck drivers. Its redesign aims to simplify the search and offering of freight services, ensuring an intuitive and efficient user experience. The focus remains on its target audience, which generally may not have extensive familiarity with technological concepts.

Impact

The user-centered design process was instrumental in developing Motz, a platform conceived by Votorantim Cimentos in 2020 to streamline freight transport by connecting with independent truck drivers. The focus on understanding and addressing the real-world needs of drivers and shippers has translated into significant business success and rapid growth.

Tools

Design process

We define the problem, set objectives, and create a proposal for the user once we understand their needs.

We established our own MVP (Minimum Viable Product) and analyzed the competition's.

We conducted card sorting, and based on that, we built the information architecture and user flow.

We prototyped low-fidelity to high-fidelity wireframes and conducted usability tests.

We tested the prototypes with real users and evaluated the heuristics.

Research & Discovery (Contextual Understanding & Empathy)

Objective

To gain deep insight into the logistics ecosystem, driver/manager routines, challenges, and needs, identifying opportunities for a mobile app.

Key Activities

Field shadowing, interviews with drivers and managers, task analysis, review of existing tools, secondary research on the logistics sector.

Outcome

Detailed understanding of user pain points (e.g., finding return freight, inefficient routes, fragmented communication), user personas, journey maps, competitive analysis, and key design opportunities.

Motivations

Despite enjoying the profession, he feels it has been undervalued over the years. With the increase in fuel prices, remuneration has decreased. They realized that they needs to work much harder to earn the same amount, and this has been exausting.

Thanks to this study, we have been able to understand the weaknesses and strengths of our competition, so that our user experience can be improved.

MVP - Minimum Viable Product

Designing architecture

💡 To achieve a more accurate interaction between the user and the functionalities offered by the App, a card sorting was implemented with 10 people who organized the words into categories according to their criteria. Based on the resulting dendrograms, we organized our Architecture.

How would you, as a truck driver, benefit from being able to easily find available loads nearby?

As a truck driver, being able to easily find available loads nearby would greatly benefit me in several ways. Firstly, it would reduce downtime and empty miles, maximizing my earning potential. Secondly, it would optimize my route planning, allowing for more efficient use of time and resources. Additionally, having access to nearby loads could help me maintain a consistent workflow and schedule. Overall, this capability would greatly improve my productivity and profitability as a truck driver.

Your new ally awaits you.
